The Classic Turtle Trader

Posted by larosfx on

Description

This trend following system was designed by Dennis Gartman and Bill Eckhart, and relies on breakouts of historical highs and lows to take and close trades: it is the complete opposite to the "buy low and sell high" approach. The main rule is "Trade an N-day breakout and take profits when an M-day high or low is breached (N must me above M)". Examples:
  • Buy a 10-day breakout and close the trade when price action reaches a 5-day low.
  • Go short a 20-day breakout and close the trade when price action reaches a 10-day high.

How to trade

In this indicator, entry and exit signals are displayed as arrows and dots.
  • Go long on blue arrows
  • Go short on red arrows
  • Exit long positions when a blue dot appears
  • Exit short positions when a red dot appears
This indicator should be used together with The Turtle Trading Channel indicator, to represent the same period or the failsafe trading system. The important function about this indicator is that it actually checks if your last trade has been stopped out and gives further entry signals along the trend. So it is the perfect addition to the trading channel for a complete Turtle Trading approach.
Both indicators implement alerts and email alerts.

Turtle Trading Lite EA

Posted by larosfx on 29 January 2016

Description

Trend following systems can vary, but principle elements remain the same. A reversal system, a very common system, has two modes: you are either long or short. It is always in the market and closes one position by opening a new one in the opposite direction.

Another type of system has three-phases adding a third mode: neutral, where you are not in the market. If you are long and you get an exit signal, you don't necessarily go short automatically. You can be out of the market.
The Turtle Trading basic principle is nothing more than adding a third mode to a reversal trend following system, by implementing a faster strategy and a tight stop-loss order. The result is this expert advisor.
What does this EA do?
  • Buy if the current price closes above the highest price in 80 days
  • Sell if the current price closes blow the lowest price in 80 days
  • Close longs if the current price touches the lowest price in 20 days
  • Close shorts if the current price touches the highest price in 20 days
This system should be applied to a huge variety of instruments to make sure to catch some big trends to pay for the other little losses. You should trade forex, commodities, indexes, interest rates, government bonds and even sectorial stocks.

FX Seer – It knows exactly where to the price will go

Posted by larosfx on

FX Seer is based on a completely new technology that allows you to not worry about the calculation of the lot or the choice of parameters. You only need to specify the desired profit in the range of 5% to 120% in a month and FX Seer EA itself will install all the properly.

In the words of the developers, there are 15 different trading sessions in the forex advisor FX Seer. Each of them has a certain reliability and efficiency. After selecting the desired profit Advisor sets the best session and lots, so you can get the best result! For stable operation and for avoiding drawdowns is entered simultaneously not more than 4 sessions.
Сharacteristics of FX Seer
  • Platform: Metatrader4
  • Currency pairs: Only EURUSD
  • Trading Time: Around the clock
  • Timeframe: H1
  • Current EA version: 1.0.2
  • Recommended broker: FBS Markets (LTD)
As mentioned earlier, you can set the desired profit in the range of 5% to 120%, but you should understand that the higher profit, the higher the risk.
Parameters of FX Seer
AutoGMT – if set as true, the system will determine GMT of your broker and automatically compare it with Greenwich. If set as false , the system uses parameters from ManualGMT. Notice. Divergences can appear after switching to daylight saving time.
Attention! Auto GMT does not work during backtesting.
Get Adobe Flash player

ManualGMT – works only if the AutoGMT is turned off. It is necessarily to indicate ManualGMT for backtesting. If you don’t know your broker’s GMT just drag and drop the advisor with turned-on AutoGMT on chart and in this case the advisor will show the data including broker’s GMT on chart.
Deposit_to_Trade – here you should indicate your start deposit or part of it with which you want to trade (profit and risks depend on it).
Attention! If you don’t set start deposit so the value remains “0”, the lot calculation will be calculating on the principle of compound interest. This is more profitable and more risky method at the same time.
Monthly_Profit – in this parameter you should specify the desirable monthly profit in the range from 5% to 120%. The lower is profitability the higher is reliability. The profitability is calculated according to the value in Deposit_to_Trade. For example:
Your deposit is $10 000
You've indicated the following values in the advisor:
Deposit_to_Trade = 5000 Monthly_Profit = 50
It means you'll be earning 50% from $5000 per month. your profit according to whole deposit will be 25%. But owing to that you've specified Deposit_to_Trade one half and still you will have remaining $5 000 which losses.
Backtests of FX Seer
Testing was performed on the time interval 2010-2015 with different parameters - Monthly_Profit, everything else remained unchanged:

Parameters of EA Asia
EA Asia
Attention! In this Expert Advisor settings significantly affect on the trading results, use the recommended set-files (see archive at the end of this article).
MaxSpread (default value: -1.0) – the default maximum allowed value of the spread is provided by our server, but if you want to use your own value, then you can enter a positive value for the MaxSpread parameter.
Auto_GMT (default value: true) – this parameter controls the GMT Offset calculation method. In most of the cases, the automatic GMT value is correct. However, in some cases, you may need to enter the GMT Offset by yourself. In this case, switch Auto_GMT to FALSE and enter the value you need in the Manual_GMT_Offset parameter.
Calculate_DST (default value: true) - activates the automatic DST (Daylight Saving Time) correction.
Manual_GMT_Offset (default value: 2) – in case you switch to Auto_GMT=FALSE, the value of this parameter should be the right GMT Offset of your broker (usually, the winter GMT offset). As well, in case you perform a backtest, you should enter here the correct GMT Offset for the historical data you use – otherwise, the backtest will be incorrect.
TicksTrade (default value: false) – this is an experts-only parameter, which activates execution on the trading logic on every price tick. By default, Wallstreet ASIA operates on M1 bar closing. All optimizations and tuning we made are based on M1 bar closing, so we do not recommend switching ON the TicksTrade mode, unless you are an expert capable in making your own 100% real tick tests and optimizations. However, the TicksTrade mode could provide very aggressive and profitable trading, but this depends a lot on the broker’s trading conditions.
Channel_Period (default value: 0) - the period of the custom, volatility based channel indicator. The default value is zero, which means that the value provided by our server will be used.
Entry_Break (default value: 0) - break in pips of the channel border, which will trigger an opposite order execution. The default value is zero, which means that the value provided by our server will be used.
Exit_Distance (default value: 0) - break in pips of the channel border, which will trigger a closure of the existing order. The default value is zero, which means that the - 20 - value provided by our server will be used.
Exit_DistanceM1 (default value: 0) - break in pips of the channel border on M1 timeframe, which will trigger a closure of the existing order. The default value is zero, which means that the value provided by our server will be used.
Start_Trade_Hour (default value: -1) - the hour of the day (GMT 0) in which trading will be enabled. The default value is -1, which means that the value provided by our server will be used.
End_Trade_Hour (default value: -1) - the hour of the day (GMT 0) in which trading will be disabled. The default value is -1, which means that the value provided by our server will be used.
Included with the full version of the EA is attached simplified version of the "Simple", which is less settings. But the Simple should be installed only to the recommended currency pairs. More details on the simplified version, read the manual.
If you decide to use the full version of the EA Asia, it is recommended to use the set-files are given in the end of the article (in the folder MQL4 is placed folder Presets with a sets).

When to Buy or Sell a Currency Pair

Posted by larosfx on

In the following examples, we are going to use fundamental analysis to help us decide whether to buy or sell a specific currency pair.
If you always fell asleep during your economics class or just flat out skipped economics class, don’t worry! We will cover fundamental analysis in a later lesson.
But right now, try to pretend you know what’s going on…

EUR/USD

In this example, the euro is the base currency and thus the “basis” for the buy/sell.
If you believe that the U.S. economy will continue to weaken, which is bad for the U.S. dollar, you would execute a BUY EUR/USD order. By doing so, you have bought euros in the expectation that they will rise versus the U.S. dollar.
If you believe that the U.S. economy is strong and the euro will weaken against the U.S. dollar you would execute a SELL EUR/USD order. By doing so you have sold euros in the expectation that they will fall versus the US dollar.

USD/JPY

In this example, the U.S. dollar is the base currency and thus the “basis” for the buy/sell.
If you think that the Japanese government is going to weaken the yen in order to help its export industry, you would execute a BUY USD/JPY order. By doing so you have bought U.S dollars in the expectation that they will rise versus the Japanese yen.
If you believe that Japanese investors are pulling money out of U.S. financial markets and converting all their U.S. dollars back to yen, and this will hurt the U.S. dollar, you would execute a SELL USD/JPY order. By doing so you have sold U.S dollars in the expectation that they will depreciate against the Japanese yen.

GBP/USD

In this example, the pound is the base currency and thus the “basis” for the buy/sell.
If you think the British economy will continue to do better than the U.S. in terms of economic growth, you would execute a BUY GBP/USD order. By doing so you have bought pounds in the expectation that they will rise versus the U.S. dollar.
If you believe the British’s economy is slowing while the United States’ economy remains strong like Jack Bauer, you would execute a SELL GBP/USD order. By doing so you have sold pounds in the expectation that they will depreciate against the U.S. dollar.

USD/CHF

In this example, the U.S. dollar is the base currency and thus the “basis” for the buy/sell.
If you think the Swiss franc is overvalued, you would execute a BUY USD/CHF order. By doing so you have bought U.S. dollars in the expectation that they will appreciate versus the Swiss Franc.
If you believe that the U.S. housing market weakness will hurt future economic growth, which will weaken the dollar, you would execute a SELL USD/CHF order. By doing so you have sold U.S. dollars in the expectation that they will depreciate against the Swiss franc.

Margin Trading

When you go to the grocery store and want to buy an egg, you can’t just buy a single egg; they come in dozens or “lots” of 12.
In forex, it would be just as foolish to buy or sell 1 euro, so they usually come in “lots” of 1,000 units of currency (Micro), 10,000 units (Mini), or 100,000 units (Standard) depending on your broker and the type of account you have (more on “lots” later).
“But I don’t have enough money to buy 10,000 euros! Can I still trade?”
You can with margin trading!
Get Adobe Flash player

Margin trading is simply the term used for trading with borrowed capital. This is how you’re able to open $1,250 or $50,000 positions with as little as $25 or $1,000. You can conduct relatively large transactions, very quickly and cheaply, with a small amount of initial capital.
Let us explain.
Listen carefully because this is very important!
  1. You believe that signals in the market are indicating that the British pound will go up against the U.S. dollar.
  2. You open one standard lot (100,000 units GBP/USD), buying with the British pound at 2% margin and wait for the exchange rate to climb. When you buy one lot (100,000 units) of GBP/USD at a price of 1.50000, you are buying 100,000 pounds, which is worth US$150,000 (100,000 units of GBP * 1.50000).If the margin requirement was 2%, then US$3,000 would be set aside in your account to open up the trade (US$150,000 * 2%). You now control 100,000 pounds with just US$3,000.We will be discussing margin more in-depth later, but hopefully you’re able to get a basic idea of how it works.
  3. Your predictions come true and you decide to sell. You close the position at 1.50500. You earn about $500.
Your Actions GBP  USD
You buy 100,000 pounds at the exchange rate of 1.5000+100,000 -150,000
You blink for two seconds and the GBP/USD exchange rates rises to 1.5050 and you sell.-100,000+150,500
You have earned a profit of $500.0+500

When you decide to close a position, the deposit that you originally made is returned to you and a calculation of your profits or losses is done.
This profit or loss is then credited to your account.
What’s even better is that, with the development of retail forex trading, there are some brokers who allow traders to have custom lots. This means that you don’t need to trade in micro, mini or standard lots! If 1,542 is your favorite number and that’s how many units you want trade, then you can!

Rollover

No, this is not the same as rollover minutes from your cell phone carrier! For positions open at your broker’s “cut-off time” (usually 5:00 pm EST), there is a daily rollover interest rate that a trader either pays or earns, depending on your established margin and position in the market.
Get Adobe Flash player

If you do not want to earn or pay interest on your positions, simply make sure they are all closed before 5:00 pm EST, the established end of the market day.
Since every currency trade involves borrowing one currency to buy another, interest rollover charges are part of forex trading. Interest is paid on the currency that is borrowed, and earned on the one that is bought.
If you are buying a currency with a higher interest rate than the one you are borrowing, then the net interest rate differential will be positive (i.e. USD/JPY) and you will earn funds as a result.
Conversely, if the interest rate differential is negative then you will have to pay.
Note that many retail brokers do adjust their rollover rates based on different factors (e.g., account leverage, interbank lending rates). Please check with your broker for more information on rollover rates and crediting/debiting procedures.
